Minor in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies

The minor in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies is intended to provide students with courses leading to specialized knowledge related to the fields of deafness and hearing loss.  It will be of interested to students who intend to engage in teaching, counseling, rehabilitation, social work, and other professions in which contact with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing may be expected. There may be some interest as well on the part of students majoring in TESOL and linguistics due to the bilingual aspect of part of the field of study. (Individuals whose native language is American Sign Language (ASL) receive instruction in English as a second language.)  Finally, it will be a good option for those students who wish to move on to graduate study in the fields of deaf education, rehabilitation, counseling, speech-language pathology, and audiology.
