Bachelor of Science in Family Studies
The bachelor of science degree in family studies has four specializations:
Child Advocacy and Family Policy
Child Development/P-3 Early Childhood Education Teaching Certification
Family Support/Provisional Certified Family Life Educator
Individual and Family Development
Each specialization has entry-level criteria and specific course requirements. All require close consultation with a faculty advisor.
The The P-3 Early Childhood Education Teaching Certification Program and the Certified Family Life Educator programs are highly structured and may have limited enrollment. Acceptance to these programs and to internships and practica is restricted to students demonstrating exceptional potential for working with children and families. Students who are interested in becoming certified early childhood teachers may go to http://www.uky.edu/Education/TEP/usacert.html to check the certification requirements for each state.
The Department of Family Studies offers three minors minors to interested students in related majors. Students desiring a minor are advised to consult with the undergraduate coordinator, Melissa Leavy, as early as possible.
