Undergraduate Program

Program Mission Statement

The Athletic Training Major of the University of New Hampshire, College of Health and Human Services, Department of Kinesiology has a threefold mission consistent with the overall mission of the University which encompass the scholarly functions of teaching, research, and public service.  The primary recipients of this program are the undergraduate students in athletic training at the University.  The secondary recipients of this program are those individuals participating in sport or physical activities at the University and elsewhere.  The program is committed to using whatever technology and methods are available and affordable in the accomplishment of its mission.

The goals of the program are:

  1. To recruit students and screen for appropriate candidates to enter the Athletic Training Major.
  2. Student attainment and mastery of the minimal competencies necessary to function as an entry-level athletic trainer and successfully pass the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC), Examination.
  3. To keep the Athletic Training Major up-to-date and current.
  4. To function as the premier resource for disseminating relevant information and expertise regarding athletic training.
  5. To promote scholarship and professionalism of individuals associated with the Major.
  6. To continually monitor and evaluate the Major to insure it is meeting and accomplishing its goals and objectives.

To accomplish this the program will remain committed to the continuous upgrading of the personnel and equipment used in the delivery of services so the students, and anyone associated with the program, will be ensured of the most current and up-to-date education and care available.

The underlying philosophy of the program is that the needs of the student shall always be the first consideration for all members of the instructional staff.  The program shall also encourage a philosophy of sport that places a high value on health and wellness.  All instructional personnel in and associated with the program are expected to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainers Association, Inc., the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), and the BOC.

The instructional staff of the program shall be current in the knowledge and skills required of athletic trainers; and possess the techniques to deliver these knowledge and skills to the students.  The wide variety of high-level athletic teams at the University and off-campus clinical education sites provides a valuable and unique laboratory for student learning.  The program's close involvement with medical professionals in the community creates a learning experience not found in other programs.

The Athletic Training Major at the University of New Hampshire aspires to be a program of recognized excellence.  It is our intention to support the program with human and financial resources necessary to establish the stated goals of the program.  It is our desire to establish the Athletic Training Major at the University of New Hampshire as the primary and most outstanding location for athletic training education in the area.
