Honors in Major
Students are required to maintain an overall 3.20 grade-point average and a 3.50 in major course work.
Students must successfully complete 12 credits of honors coursework drawn from the following courses: NURS 622H, Clinical Decision Making II (4 cr.); NURS 645H, Nursing Research (4 cr.); and NURS 703H, Nursing Leadership / Management and the Organizational Context (4 cr.). RN-BS students must complete 12 credits drawn from the following corresponding equivalents: NURS 606H (7 cr.), Seminar on Professional Nursing; NURS 622[H] (4 cr.), Clinical Decision Making II; NURS 645W[H] (4 cr.), Research; and NURS 703W[H] (4 cr.), Nursing Leadership / Management and the Organizational Context. Students will complete regular assignments of these courses and will pursue additional assignments through independent work, readings, and meetings with assigned faculty.
Students must successfully complete NURS 797H, Honors Thesis (5 cr. over two semesters), (1-4 cr. per semester). This course, a self-directed learning experience related to the student’s interests, is designed to help students acquire advanced knowledge and skills to undertake research or scholarly projects. Students must submit a project description to a faculty adviser at the beginning of the senior year. Students will present the results of this study at the Mary Louise Fernald Research Colloquium attended by the department faculty, students, and other interested members of the nursing community.
