Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International
Our Chapter
On April 15, 1984, The Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International was chartered at the University of New Hampshire with 110 members inducted. Since the chartering The Chapter has inducted over 950 members. As of December 1, 2008, there are 303 active members and we are looking to motivate many of the inactive members to reactivate their membership. To do so, we will need your help in spreading the word about the benefits of membership and by inviting colleagues to attend chapter activities with you.
In keeping with the mission of Sigma Theta Tau International, the vision for Eta Iota Chapter is to be recognized as a center for fostering nursing excellence through research, professional development, mentoring, and community and global partnerships in order to influence health outcomes.
Awards are given annually in the form of grants for research and community service to deserving members. In 2008, we were pleased to have honored 2 deserving members with research support. Two faculty members were awarded research monies to aid in their research: Dr. Christine Saltzberg for her work titled “Registered Nurses’ Political Leadership Development” and PhD Candidate Joyce Cappiello for her work titled “Women’s Experience with Decision-Making with Medication Abortion”. We look forward to them presenting the results of their work at a future Eta Iota Research Day.
Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau recognizes the importance of evidence based practice and encourages all members to apply for research funding to aid in completion of their work. Our annual fall induction in 2008 saw the largest group of student and community members of over 52 strong join our chapter. We are eager to include these new members in chapter activities and programs and congratulate them on their induction. The chapter endeavors to build a membership of outstanding nurses who represent the best in nursing leadership, scholastic achievement and research.
