Sajay Arthanat, Ph.D., OTR, ATP, Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty

Professor Arthanat teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to mind body systems, neurologically-based function and dysfunction, provision of assistive technology services, research methods and applied practice, and evaluation and intervention for adults. His research interests include measuring outcomes of assistive technology (AT) interventions, examining interaction of people with disabilities and AT, usability testing of AT, and consumer product designs for persons with disabilities, cross-cultural models of disability, and community based rehabilitation. He has authored and presented many research papers highlighting his work in these interests. His clinical areas of expertise include neuro-rehabilitation and application of assistive technology including wheelchair seating and positioning, and access of computers.

 

Lou Ann Griswold, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty

Professor Griswold teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to OT practice and professional reasoning, human occupation, and OT evaluation and intervention in children. Her research interests include evaluating and supporting social interaction for people of all ages, the efficacy of OT practice in the schools, and clinical decision-making. Her clinical areas of expertise include OT practice in school-based practice and occupation-based assessment.  Professor Griswold teaches the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS), the School Version of the AMPS, and the Evaluation of Social Interaction nationally and internationally. 

 

Susan Merrill, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, Clinical Assistant Professor, and Fieldwork Coordinator

Professor Merrill teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to the transitions students make as they become entry-level professional as well as level 1 and level 2 fieldwork. Her research interests include professional socialization of occupational therapy students, the impact on aging families of adults with intellectual disabilities, infusing occupation into practice, and phenomenological research methods. Professor Merrill is involved with the New England Occupational Therapy Educational Council.

 

Shelley Mulligan, Ph.D., OTR/L, Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty

Professor Mulligan teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to OT evaluation and intervention with children, the behavior and development of children, research methods, OT Professional roles, and theory. Her research interests include the measurement of sensory integration functions, the identification of early diagnostic markers for autism, and the development and evaluation of programs aimed at promoting the occupational performance of young children with autism spectrum disorders, and sensory integration disorders.  She is involved in the UNH MCH-LEND program and is an instructor for the USC/WPS Comprehensive Training Program in Sensory Integration. 

 

Barbara Prudhomme White, Ph.D., OTR/L, Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty

Professor White teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to research methods and application to practice, as well as in human stress: anatomy, physiology/biomarkers, behavior and intervention.  Her research interests include stress effects on human development and behavior in well populations, persons with disability and in autism spectrum disorders. Her clinical areas of expertise include OT practice with infants and children, stress management, and behavioral/emotional regulation. In addition to her academic appointment, Professor White is Faculty Director of the Discovery Program, UNH’s core undergraduate curriculum. She is also a PSIA certified, volunteer adaptive ski instructor at New England Disabled Sports at Loon Mountain in Franconia, NH.

 

Elizabeth Stewart, MS OTR/L, CEASII, Clinical Assistant Professor

Professor Stewart teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework in the occupational therapy program related to human movement, OT evaluation and intervention (adults), occupation, health and community programming, ergonomics, administration and policy and an introductory course in exploring occupational therapy. Her clinical areas of expertise include adult rehabilitation, ergonomics, upper extremity orthopedic injuries and acute care. Professor Stewart also provides ergonomic consulting and per diem work in outpatient rehabilitation and acute care.

 

Kate Stimmell, MS OTR/L, Clinical Assistant Professor

Professor Stimmell teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework related to child development, pediatric OT practice, leadership, and occupational science. She provides direct clinical services and supervises trainees in the Seacoast Child Development Clinic. She brings expertise in the area of sensory processing, pediatric practice and inclusive education practices for young children who have special needs. She is currently a doctoral candidate in education at UNH and faculty with the NH LEND ASD CAAI grant.

 

Kerryellen G.Vroman, PhD, OTR/L, Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty, Department Chair

Professor Vroman teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to psychosocial disorders of everyday life, psychosocial evaluation and intervention, and OT practice and professional reasoning. Her research interests include investigation of psychosocial factors that influence health outcomes and adaptation to illness including relationships between client-practitioner, patients' goal directed activities and recovery, and client expectations and behavioral change. Her clinical areas of expertise include community mental health, cognitive behavioral therapy, psycho-educational and psychodynamic group therapies for community-based clients and rehabilitation for young adults with mental health challenges. Professor Vroman is also involved with the Help Age Octavia Waight Home for Elders, Belize as well as the Maine Council for the Humanities.

 

Therese Willkomm, PhD, ATP, Clinical Assistant Professor

Professor Willkomm teaches coursework in the occupational therapy program related to human movement, and on the use and application of assistive technology to compensate for disabilities, and to promote occupational performance. Her research interests include assistive technology service delivery outcome measures; iPAD applications for persons with disabilities; secondary injuries and assistive technology, and assistive technology to prevent slips and falls. Her clinical areas of expertise include development, evaluation and training in the use of assistive technology, worksite accommodations, and universal design for learning. Professor Willkomm and also works with the Institute of Disability at UNH as the Director of the New Hampshire Assistive Technology Statewide Program and is the coordinator of the Graduate Certificate Program in Assistive Technology. Dr. Willkomm is also a member of the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America.
