Graduate Program

The primary purpose of the RMP graduate program is to prepare professionally educated recreation and therapeutic recreation administrators to serve their communities and provide leadership that addresses the quality of life issues of an increasing diverse and complex society.

The Masters of Science in Recreation Management & Policy provides students with a foundation in leisure theory, research and statistical skills to conduct applied research within the field, and administration skills for management level position in practice. The program also provides the flexibility for students to pursue areas of expertise of particular interest to them. Students in consultation with their graduate advisor may elect either a thesis or non-thesis option.

Individuals seeking a career change to recreation or therapeutic recreation administration with an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. ,education, psychology, business, special education) may pursue the M.S. in Recreation Management & Policy. Prerequisite courses will be determined based on professional experience and educational background.

Applications will be reviewed all year as they are completed, but early application is highly recommended. All applications wishing to be considered for financial assistance should be submitted by February 15.

Fall and Spring classes are offered predominately during the evenings in three hour blocks for 15 weeks. All courses are supported by Blackboard, a web based curriculum support program that allows students to access course materials and interact with instructors and fellow students.
