Apply for Steelman Fellowship

The UNH College of Health and Human Services has announced that this year’s deadline to apply for the Theo-Steelman Fellowship is Monday, April 9.

The Steelman Fellowship is awarded each year to a junior in the College of Health and Human Services who normally works during the summer due to financial need. The Steelman Fellowship includes a stipend of $4000 that allows the awardee to complete a summer service project instead.

Students should submit a proposal outlining a  “win/win” service project at a cooperating site/agency/organization that will benefit from the skills and services of the student, and that likely would not have the resources to provide that service otherwise. Proposals should include:

  1. A narrative from the student, outlining the project and stating how the proposed work will align with the programming/initiatives of the participating agency.
  2. A statement from the organization, acknowledging their participation and affirming that, were it not for the student being supported, the project would probably not be a priority.
  3. A statement from the student's faculty advisor, including preliminary ideas about how the summer fellowship may lead to tangible opportunities for further scholarly work by the student during his/her senior year.

Proposals should be submitted to Neil Vroman, Interim Dean, College of Health & Human Services.

The Steelman Public Service Fellowship Fund was established in 1999 by David C. Steelman and Dr. Virginia Theo-Steelman to provide stipends for undergraduate students in the School of Health and Human Sciences to complete full-time summer service learning experiences in the public service sector.
